General
The Ion Cannon is a powerful Energy weapon with increased shield bypass.
It fires a spray of Energy pellets similar to the Gatling Ray but has significantly more spread and does not pierce ships.
Strategy
Ships equipped with this weapon have relatively short range, try to take them out using long-ranged battleships before they get close.
Squadrons can keep them busy for a couple of seconds, buying you time to defeat them.

- The Ion Cannon was first seen in Reaper fleets during Vengeance.
- The Ion Cannon was originally named the Ion Gatling.
